In Hirst classroom young people learn through a sensory approach linked to The Profound Education Curriculum. The four key areas of development for those in this class are Communication, Cognition, Independence and Physical skills. Each term the classroom adopts a new theme which provides the basis for teaching activities, this allows learners and staff to work together to create a sensory environment, using a cross curricular approach.

All young people learning within Hirst classroom work towards achieving an ASDAN Personal Progress Entry 1 qualification during their time at the Jean Rees Centre, the level of this award can range from a single Unit Award to a Diploma.
