Teaching & Learning

Learning for young people within our post 16 phase of education is all centred around independence. We constantly encourage and support our young people to be as independent as possible and have high aspirations for them to be a part of the local community.

The curriculum consists of developing functional English and maths skills that will enable them to take part in a range of learning activities. Young people work towards a range of accredited courses which are delivered on a personalised basis.

Each young person has an individualised timetable which reflects their learning needs and their interests. We provide a work related learning opportunity for each young person and this can range from work related learning activities within the Jean Rees Centre to pupils working out in the community in a range of different settings. We also further enhance our curriculum with a range of social and leisure activities including sport, swimming, horticulture, food technology, bowling and visits out.

Developing social and independent living skills is also a core part of the curriculum. We aim for our young people to leave us and step out  into the world as confident, independent young adults.
